artists-in-residence laboratory
at Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle

Artists-in-residence laboratory organizes creative residencies for foreign artists at CCA Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw. In parallel, it seeks to promote Polish artists internationally by facilitating their participation in creative residencies hosted by the laboratory’s partner programmes throughout the world.

At present a-i-r laboratory can host up to two artists at one time in studios equipped to accommodate artists working in traditional techniques as well as those who employ new media in their work.

Resident artists receive an opportunity to present their projects publicly at the CCA as lectures, projections, public discussions, exhibitions and performances. The laboratory also strives to encourage visiting artists to realize their work in the public spaces of Warsaw or in one of the laboratory’s numerous independent partner galleries.

Work is underway on a series of new spaces for the a-i-r laboratory in the former Arsenal building adjacent to Ujazdowski Castle. Also known as the Laboratory, the building is currently undergoing major refurbishment. Once completed, the Arsenal will house an international arts exchange centre where young artists will work and meet, as well as the a-i-r laboratory’s new creative residency studios capable of accommodating artists of all disciplines, including designers and curators.

The a-i-r laboratory’s partners include Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Art in General in New York, FACT in Liverpool, Futura in Prague, HIAP in Helsinki, the Headlands Center for the Arts in San Francisco, kuda org in Novi Sad, Location One in New York, NKD in Dale, Norway, and Sala Rekalde in Bilbao. The a-i-r laboratory is also a member of the Res Artis Network.
