MIDNIGHT CROSSING, being the most recent, was commissioned specifically for the "Skulptur. Projekte in Munster" exhibition. This awesome work of nearly epic proportions forcefully highlights Hill's ability for achieving unusual levels of aesthetic profundity. The slightly earlier REMARKS ON COLOR touches upon one of the artist's conceptual preoccupations - reinterpretations of philosophical texts.

AND SAT DOWN BESIDE HERGary Hill,
one of the most distinguished American video artists, is also one of the few to create and develop his own language within the medium.

In Hill's works, both reflections upon philosophical and poetic texts are incorporated into the message, and simultaneous, intense sensual perceptions have been considered equally important.

Gary Hill was born in 1951 in Santa Barbara, California. He began to make video installations around 1974, when video was not yet fully recognized as an "official" art form. Since 1975, the artist started his pioneering experiments with electronic image processing devices.
