Two Exhibitions - is the title of a fictitious retrospective by Robert Szczerbowski. The subtitle Retrospective for the End of Time is somewhat of a mystification because the majority of works belonging to the project have never been presented the public before. The project consists of two simultaneous exhibitions which create a dynamic relationship.

The first part entitled Three Works Exposed for Public Viewing is a meta-exhibition; an exhibition about exhibitions. Its aim is to describe the condition of exhibitions. It relates to perception and interpretation of object d'art. The title is also ironic because, in fact the exhibition does not show any work which could be described as the work of art. It rather presents three aspects of an artistic event which are the conditions of its existence and functioning, namely: the object, the place and the time.

steel safe box with digital lock

Safe box built in a bearing wall of the exhibition building at a height of 160 cm, opened with a code. 45x27x24 cm

"The key to this work is the content of the hiding place. So, one should try to open it. There is no key in a material sense: the key is the right code, a three digit combination. On the rotary disc there is a scale ranging from 1 to 100. By turning the knob to the left, the first digit should be set on the centre mark. Then the knob should be turned three more times to the left, stopping exactly on the same digit. Next, turn the knob to the right and set the second digit on the mark. By turning a twice to the right stop on this second digit again. By turning the knob to the left, set the third digit. Then, by turning to the left one more time, finish on the last digit. If the code was exactly the one I had programmed, the repeated turn to the right will allow the door to open
